Botox & Filler

Injections

Botox and filler injections rank as the most sought-after minimally invasive cosmetic procedures within Canada. These procedures aim to refine, reshape, or enhance facial features, accentuating the innate beauty of the face. Our patients opt for these injections to harmonize their external appearance with the vitality they feel internally. Such cosmetic enhancements serve as a means for individuals to boost their confidence, self-esteem, vitality, and embody their ideal selves. At CentasMed Esthetique, we prioritize providing our patients with reliable and current information to facilitate informed decision-making. Therefore, before scheduling your initial cosmetic injection session, it is crucial to familiarize yourself with the diverse options at your disposal.

Botox vs. Fillers

Neuromodulators and dermal fillers are the primary types of injectables used in cosmetic procedures.

Neuromodulators, such as BOTOX®, target permanent furrows and deep wrinkles by partially immobilizing muscles. These injections block nerve impulses, preventing muscle contraction and temporarily eliminating dynamic lines caused by muscle movement. However, they may not fully address deep lines or furrows.

On the other hand, dermal fillers like Juvéderm® address volume loss due to factors like fat and bone loss, muscle changes, and skin quality. Composed of a soft gel substance, often hyaluronic acid-based, fillers are injected into the skin to contour and add volume to areas like the lips, cheeks, chin, temples, neck, and hands.

The key distinction lies in their target areas and mechanisms: neuromodulators relax muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles, while dermal fillers smooth wrinkles and restore volume by directly filling the skin.

Benefits

The advantages of these treatments can vary widely and are tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Neuromodulators, such as BOTOX®, are beneficial for addressing:

  • Forehead furrows
  • Frown lines between the eyebrows
  • Lines across the bridge of the nose
  • Crow’s feet
  • Skin bands on the neck

On the other hand, dermal fillers offer benefits such as:

  • Balancing and adding dimension to facial features
  • Lifting brows and temples
  • Refreshing tired eyes by softening hollows
  • Enhancing and defining lips
  • Softening lines around the mouth
  • Contouring the chin and jawline
  • Rejuvenating the hands
  • Improving the skin quality of the neck and décolleté area

Expectations for Your Treatment

Injectable procedures are fast, usually lasting an hour or less, making them convenient even during a lunch break. Results are noticeable promptly; for instance, fillers take immediate effect, while neuromodulators show full results within two weeks, with initial effects in three days. Recovery time is minimal, allowing most patients to resume normal activities immediately. Many find injections nearly painless or experience only mild, temporary discomfort. Fine needles ensure precise delivery without the need for anesthesia, though some injectors may use ice packs or topical creams for added comfort.

Duration of Results

The smoothing effects of injectables are temporary, necessitating periodic treatments to sustain the desired look. Results’ longevity depends on factors like the product type, dosage, injection site, and individual metabolism. Typically, neuromodulators last around three to four months, while hyaluronic acid fillers offer effects lasting six to eighteen months. Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible using an enzyme that dissolves the filler within 24 hours if needed. However, neuromodulators are not reversible, emphasizing the importance of starting with conservative doses and adjusting as necessary.

Side Effects & Potential Risks

Despite being non-surgical, injectable procedures carry some risks. Common side effects can include:

  • Mild discomfort
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Infection
  • Inflammation
  • Tenderness
  • Minor bleeding

Most of these reactions are temporary, though some may persist for several months.

Who Should Avoid Injectables?

You should refrain from cosmetic injections if you are:

  • Under 18 years old
  • Ill
  • Recently had dental work, injections, or immunizations within the past two weeks
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

Additionally, injectables may not be suitable if you have:

  • Certain medical conditions like autoimmune diseases
